2016 was a great year at Prime Slots with thousands of new players joining us in search of fun and prizes. We launched some superb new games from NetEnt and other top designers, and had a record number of winners. One lucky player from Norway won over €500,000 playing Fruity Friends!
Over a dozen other players from across Europe were also celebrating with six figure wins, and loads more were reaching for the champagne after winning cash prizes of €10,000 and upwards. We can’t count how many players got nice surprises in the form of enough money for a good night out or a mini shopping spree. The best news is that there are still plenty of Prime Jackpots waiting to be won and we’ll be hoping to see more big winners in 2017.
We’ll take a look back at some of the big events of 2016 and a look forward at some of the good things that we’ve got lined up for the New Year.
Going for Gold
2016 also produced plenty of other real winners with Britain’s Chris Froome winning the 103rd Tour de France tournament in July. Team GB enjoyed its most successful summer Olympics for over 100 years. British athletes won a total over 67 medals including an astonishing 27 gold medals in Rio de Janeiro.
One of the first big events of 2016 was the Academy Awards (better known as the Oscars) at the end of February. The film Spotlight won the award for best picture and Alejandro G. Innaritu won the prize of best director for historical action movie The Revenant. Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar for best actor – also in The Revenant – and Brie Larson won best actress for her performance in the film Room. An estimated 35 million people watched this year’s Oscars generating massive publicity for the featured films.
And the Worst…
The night before the Oscars was an event that Hollywood would prefer didn’t exist: The 36th Golden Raspberry Awards held at the Palace Theatre in Los Angeles. The ‘Razzies’ are a parody of the Oscars and award prizes for the worst films and performances of the previous year. Fifty Shades of Grey was the overall ‘winner’ with awards for Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Actress, Worst Screen Combo and Worst Screenplay!
Some Fun Facts from 2016

Slots fans are old enough to know what we’re talking about when we mention VCRs or video cassette recorders, but their kids won’t have a clue. When VCRs hit the high street in the early 80s they were regarded as space age technology and must-haves. Now they are part of entertainment history with the last ever unit produced on July 22nd 2016 by Japanese manufacturer Funai.
On January 23rd 8 workers from Cairo’s Egyptian Museum were recommended for prosecution. Their crime – reattaching Tutankhamun’s beard with ‘inappropriate glue’. It wouldn’t have happened when the Pharaohs were in charge!
